About the Band
Thursday Night Music Club (TNMC) is a group made entirely of volunteer musicians. The group gives Tallahassee musicians the opportunity to play big band style music together in a relaxed atmosphere. The band plays a variety of repertoire to include jazz, swing, funk, blues, rock and Latin jazz arrangements for jazz ensemble.
The talented members come with a variety of experience from playing professionally to playing on the amateur circuit for years. Members are actively involved in several various regional and local music groups. Many are well-versed on several instruments.
The band began in January of 2006, and has been lucky enough to host many talented musicians from around the community. In the summer of 2007, the band welcomed Patrick Dunnigan (FSU Director of Bands), in the capacity of musical director and guitarist – but like the other members of the band, Patrick is a community musician with a passion for jazz!
We run our group like a non-profit, cycling any funds we earn back into the band to buy sheet music, supplies, shirts, etc. So, while none of our members are paid, it’s important for the group to raise funds so that we can continue to operate and play new music. That being said, the band does donate many hours of its time to local organizations and causes and we always offer discounted rates for other types of events.
TNMC has performed at the following events: Tallahassee Downtown Winter Festival, Springtime Tallahassee, Opperman Music Hall, Southwood Big House Boogie, SouthWoodStock, Homecoming and Parents’ Weekend in the FSU Union, benefits for the Boys and Girls Club, Girls and Boys Town, and Habitat for Humanity, Tallahassee Jazz & Blues Festival, WFSU Outloud, concerts in Kleman Plaza, Tallahassee Downtown Marketplace, the Governor’s Club, and many more.
